billycan

Outback cooking pot

A billycan is a lightweight metal pot with a lid and wire handle, used for boiling water or cooking over a campfire.

The term is chiefly Australian and New Zealand, where it's often shortened to just billy.

Billycans are associated with bush camping and outback life, appearing frequently in imagery of swagmen and drovers brewing tea in the wilderness.

He filled the billy from the creek and set it on the coals.
