big hand
Shows the minutes
Big hand most commonly refers to the minute hand on a clock or watch, distinguished from the little hand (the hour hand).
Parents and teachers often use this terminology when teaching children to tell time: When the big hand is on the twelve and the little hand is on the three, it's three o'clock.
In a different sense, giving someone a big hand means applauding them enthusiastically: Let's give our performers a big hand!
