beta males

Followers, not leaders

Beta males is a term from online masculinity discourse ranking men by dominance, with alphas at the top and betas as followers—less assertive, less sexually successful.

The concept derives from outdated wolf-pack research.

It's used disparagingly by some men to shame others perceived as weak or insufficiently masculine: Those beta males let women walk all over them.
