bellrope
Belfry's hanging line
A bellrope is a rope used to ring a bell, typically hanging down from a bell mounted in a tower or high place.
Pulling the rope swings the bell or strikes its clapper.
Church bellropes often have a colored woolen grip called a sally: The ringers took hold of their bellropes and began the peal.
