beerhalls

Large communal pubs

Beerhalls are large drinking establishments, especially the spacious taverns traditional in Germany and central Europe where patrons sit at long communal tables.

The word evokes a particular atmosphere of boisterous socializing, often with food and sometimes live music: Munich's famous beerhalls fill up during Oktoberfest.

Also spelled as two words: beer halls.
