bar association
Attorneys' professional group
A bar association is a professional organization for lawyers, typically organized at the state or local level.
In most U.S. states, membership in the state bar association is mandatory for anyone wishing to practice law there; passing the bar exam grants admission to the bar.
Bar associations set ethical standards, provide continuing education, and may discipline members for misconduct.
She joined the American Bar Association after graduating from law school.
