balloon festivals
Hot-air mass gatherings
Balloon festivals are events where hot air balloons gather for mass launches, often at dawn when winds are calmest.
They typically run several days, featuring balloon glows at night when tethered balloons illuminate their envelopes, competitions for pilots, and carnival-style attractions: We go to the balloon festival every October.
The largest draw hundreds of balloons and thousands of spectators.
