demolition derbies
Vehicular destruction contests
Demolition derbies are motorsport events where drivers deliberately crash into one another until only one functional vehicle remains.
The cars are typically old sedans, stripped of glass and reinforced for safety.
The spectacle combines destruction with competition: We took the kids to the demolition derby at the county fair.
Figuratively, any chaotic situation with multiple parties colliding can be called a demolition derby.
