bake off
Competitive dessert making
A bake off is a competition in which participants prepare baked goods to be judged against one another: The county fair's annual bake off drew dozens of entries.
The term extends to any head-to-head comparison or competitive evaluation: We did a bake off of the three software vendors before choosing one.
