baby-led weaning

Infant-directed food exploration

Baby-led weaning is a method of introducing solid foods to infants by letting them feed themselves finger foods from the start, skipping purées and spoon-feeding.

The baby controls what and how much they eat, typically beginning around six months when they can sit up and grasp objects.

We're doing baby-led weaning, so she eats what we eat, just in smaller pieces.
