aweigh

Just off bottom

Aweigh describes an anchor that has just been lifted clear of the seabed but not yet brought aboard: The anchor is aweigh.

The word appears almost exclusively in nautical contexts and in the Navy song "Anchors Aweigh." It's often confused with *away* or *underway*, but aweigh refers specifically to this moment of the anchor breaking free.
