avocado pits
Green fruit centers
Avocado pits are the large, round seeds found at the center of avocados.
Some people attempt to grow avocado plants from them by suspending the pit in water with toothpicks until it sprouts.
In cooking, the pit is discarded, though folk wisdom suggests leaving it in guacamole prevents browning—a claim with little scientific support.
