audition tape
Actor's recorded tryout
An audition tape is a recorded performance submitted when seeking a role, typically in film, television, or theater.
Actors prepare these recordings to demonstrate their suitability for a part when they cannot audition in person: She sent in an audition tape for the pilot.
The term persists even though physical tape has given way to digital video files.
