ash trees
Baseball bat sources
Ash trees are deciduous hardwoods of the genus *Fraxinus*, valued for their strong, flexible wood used in tool handles, baseball bats, and furniture.
They have compound leaves with multiple leaflets arranged opposite each other.
North American ash populations have been devastated by the emerald ash borer, an invasive beetle: The ash trees on our street all had to be cut down.
