artichoke hearts
Choke's edible core
Artichoke hearts are the tender, edible core of the artichoke—the fleshy base and inner leaves after the tough outer leaves and fuzzy choke have been removed.
Sold canned, jarred, or frozen, they appear in salads, dips, pasta, and pizza: spinach artichoke dip, marinated artichoke hearts.
Fresh artichokes require considerable preparation to reach the heart.
