apoplectic
Shaking with fury
Apoplectic means furiously angry—so enraged you might burst a blood vessel.
The word comes from apoplexy, an old term for stroke, suggesting anger intense enough to cause medical emergency: He was apoplectic when he discovered the fraud.
The medical sense is now rare; the anger sense dominates.
