apneas
Sleep breathing stops
Apneas is the plural of apnea, a temporary cessation of breathing.
The term appears most often in medical contexts, particularly sleep apnea, where breathing repeatedly stops and starts during sleep: The sleep study recorded dozens of apneas throughout the night.
Each instance—each pause in breath—counts as one apnea.
