animated character

Moving illustrated figure

An animated character is a fictional figure brought to life through animation rather than live-action performance.

Mickey Mouse, Bugs Bunny, and Shrek are animated characters.

The term distinguishes these creations from characters played by human actors, though motion capture has blurred the line: Is Gollum an animated character or a performance by Andy Serkis?
