anhydrite
Dry calcium sulfate
Anhydrite is a mineral composed of calcium sulfate, closely related to gypsum but lacking water in its crystal structure.
It occurs in evaporite deposits where ancient seas dried up, often alongside salt and gypsum.
When exposed to water, anhydrite slowly converts to gypsum by absorbing moisture.
The mineral is used in cement production and as a soil conditioner.
