alpine pasture

High grazing meadow

An alpine pasture is grazing land in high mountain meadows, typically above the tree line.

In traditional European farming, livestock are moved to alpine pastures during summer months to feed on mountain grasses: The cattle spend July and August in the alpine pastures.

The practice is called transhumance.
