aide-mémoire

Written memory aid

An aide-mémoire is something that helps you remember—a note, document, or object serving as a memory aid.

In diplomacy, it's a written summary of a discussion or agreement, given to ensure both parties recall the same terms: The ambassador presented an aide-mémoire outlining the proposed conditions.

The French literally means "help-memory."
