actinoid

Uranium's periodic family

Actinoid refers to any of the fifteen metallic elements in the periodic table with atomic numbers 89 through 103, beginning with actinium and ending with lawrencium.

These elements, also called actinides, share similar chemical properties and are all radioactive, with several occurring naturally while others are synthetic.

The most familiar actinoids are uranium and plutonium, both important in nuclear energy and weapons.
