USS Hornet
USS Hornet is the name given to several American naval vessels, most notably the aircraft carriers of World War II.
The CV-8 launched the Doolittle Raid on Tokyo in 1942 before being sunk at Santa Cruz.
The CV-12 served through the war's end and later recovered Apollo astronauts.
The name honors the Revolutionary War sloop that captured the first British vessel taken by the Continental Navy.
