UPCs
Scannable product identifiers
UPCs are Universal Product Codes—the barcodes printed on retail products that identify them for scanning at checkout.
The term refers both to the barcode symbol itself and the twelve-digit number it encodes.
The cashier couldn't ring it up because the UPC was smudged.
