Reefer Madness
Marijuana panic film
Reefer Madness is a 1936 propaganda film depicting marijuana as causing violent insanity, now watched ironically for its hysterical tone.
The title has become shorthand for exaggerated or absurd warnings about cannabis: The new drug education program is pure reefer madness.
It captures any moral panic built on misinformation rather than evidence.
