Thurber

James Thurber (1894–1961) was an American humorist, cartoonist, and writer best known for his work in *The New Yorker*.

His prose combined gentle absurdism with sharp observation of middle-class American life.

His sketchy, deceptively simple cartoons depicted anxious men, domineering women, and enigmatic dogs. "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" remains his most famous story.

Thurber's style—wry, whimsical, slightly melancholic—influenced generations of American humor writing.
