The Staple Singers

Soulful family group

The Staple Singers were an American gospel and soul group from Chicago, led by patriarch Roebuck "Pops" Staples and featuring his children, most notably Mavis Staples.

Active from the 1950s through the 1990s, they moved from traditional gospel to message-driven soul, scoring hits like "I'll Take You There" and "Respect Yourself." Their music bridged spiritual and secular, becoming anthems of the civil rights movement.
