The Rookie

First year player

A rookie is someone new to a job, sport, or activity—inexperienced but often eager.

In professional sports, a rookie is a first-year player: The rookie led the league in scoring.

The term extends to any beginner: rookie cop, rookie mistake.

It carries connotations of rawness and potential, sometimes naivety.

The Rookie is also the title of an American television crime drama.
