Stan Laurel

Stan Laurel (1890–1965) was the thin, befuddled half of Laurel and Hardy, the comedy duo that dominated film comedy from the late 1920s through the 1940s.

Born Arthur Stanley Jefferson in England, Laurel played the childlike, bumbling partner to Oliver Hardy's exasperated fat man.

He was also the creative force behind their films, writing gags and directing scenes.

He did a Stan Laurel head-scratch when confused.
