South Jersey

Below the Turnpike

South Jersey is the southern region of the U.S. state of New Jersey, culturally and geographically distinct from North Jersey.

The dividing line is imprecise but roughly follows a diagonal from Trenton to the shore.

South Jersey aligns more with Philadelphia than New York, has a different accent, and calls the beach "the shore." Residents often identify strongly with the region: I'm from South Jersey, not Jersey.
