Shenandoah River

Virginia valley waterway

A river in Virginia and West Virginia, flowing roughly 150 miles northward through the Shenandoah Valley to join the Potomac River at Harpers Ferry.

The river and its valley figure prominently in American Civil War history and folk song: Oh Shenandoah, I long to hear you.

The name likely derives from an Iroquoian word.
