Scrubs

Medical comedy series

Scrubs are the loose-fitting medical uniforms worn by surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare workers—so called because they're worn in environments requiring scrubbed-clean conditions.

The term extends to the workers themselves: The scrubs rushed the patient into the OR.

Outside medicine, scrubs are low-growing, stunted vegetation, or land covered with such growth.

A scrub is also someone considered insignificant or unskilled—a nobody: He's a scrub who can't even get a date.
