Saturday night special
Inexpensive small handgun
A Saturday night special is a cheap, small-caliber handgun—the kind associated with impulsive violence and street crime rather than serious marksmanship.
The name suggests weapons bought hastily for weekend trouble.
The term carries class connotations, implying inferior firearms owned by people who can't afford better: Politicians love to ban Saturday night specials while ignoring expensive guns that kill just as dead.
