zip gun
Homemade street weapon
A zip gun is a crude homemade firearm, typically constructed from a pipe, a wooden handle, and a rubber band or spring mechanism to strike the cartridge.
Associated with urban youth gangs in mid-20th-century America, zip guns were unreliable and dangerous to the user: He fashioned a zip gun from plumbing parts.
