Saint Thomas Aquinas
Medieval Dominican philosopher
Saint Thomas Aquinas was a thirteenth-century Italian theologian and philosopher whose synthesis of Aristotelian philosophy with Christian doctrine became foundational to Catholic thought.
His *Summa Theologica* remains a central text in scholastic philosophy.
Aquinas argued that faith and reason are compatible, and his "five ways" offered rational proofs for God's existence.
The Catholic Church later declared him a Doctor of the Church.
Often referred to simply as Aquinas.
