SIP stands for Session Initiation Protocol, a signaling protocol used in telecommunications to establish, maintain, and terminate voice and video calls over the internet.
It's fundamental to Voice over IP (VoIP) systems and internet-based phone services: The company switched to a SIP-based phone system. (Lowercase sip means to drink slowly.)
