Ringworld

Habitat encircling star

Ringworld is a megastructure concept in science fiction: an artificial ring encircling a star, with inhabitants living on the inner surface.

The idea was popularized by Larry Niven's 1970 novel of the same name.

A ringworld would have vastly more habitable surface area than any planet, though engineering such a structure remains purely theoretical: The aliens had constructed a ringworld around their sun.
