RAM disk

Volatile storage device

A RAM disk is a virtual disk drive that uses a portion of a computer's RAM as storage space.

Because RAM operates far faster than physical hard drives or SSDs, RAM disks offer extremely quick read and write speeds—useful for temporary files, caching, or applications requiring rapid data access.

The tradeoff is volatility: contents disappear when the computer loses power.
