Private Eye
UK lampoon publication
A private eye is a private investigator—a detective who works independently rather than for a police department, typically hired to conduct surveillance, find missing persons, or gather evidence for legal cases.
The term comes from the Pinkerton Detective Agency's logo, an open eye with the slogan "We Never Sleep." She hired a private eye to tail her husband.
