Postmodern era
Late twentieth century
The postmodern era is the cultural and intellectual period following modernism, generally dated from the mid-20th century onward.
It's characterized by skepticism toward grand narratives, blurred boundaries between high and low culture, irony, pastiche, and questioning of objective truth.
The postmodern era gave us buildings that mix classical columns with neon signs.
The term appears in discussions of art, architecture, literature, and philosophy, though its boundaries remain deliberately fuzzy.
