Philly cheesesteaks

Meat and cheese

Philly cheesesteaks are sandwiches of thinly sliced beef and melted cheese on a long hoagie roll, originating in Philadelphia.

The classic version uses Cheez Whiz, though provolone and American cheese have their partisans.

Onions are optional but common.

Ordering requires knowing the local shorthand: "Whiz wit" means Cheez Whiz with onions.
