Central Plains people
The Pawnee Nation is a federally recognized Native American tribe headquartered in Pawnee, Oklahoma.
The Pawnee historically inhabited the Great Plains, particularly present-day Nebraska and Kansas, where they lived in earth lodge villages and hunted bison.
Forcibly relocated to Indian Territory in the 1870s, the nation today maintains tribal sovereignty and cultural traditions including the sacred bundle ceremonies.
The Pawnee Nation operates its own government and tribal enterprises.
