Parliament-Funkadelic

Funk collective, seventies

Parliament-Funkadelic refers to the interconnected funk bands led by George Clinton from the late 1960s through the 1980s—Parliament and Funkadelic operated as a single musical collective with overlapping membership, releasing records under both names simultaneously.

Parliament leaned toward polished, horn-driven funk; Funkadelic toward psychedelic rock.

Together they created a theatrical, Afrofuturist mythology featuring characters like Dr.

Funkenstein and concepts like "the Mothership." The collective, often shortened to P-Funk, profoundly influenced hip-hop, R&B, and electronic music: Parliament-Funkadelic samples appear everywhere in '90s hip-hop.
