Orthodox wedding

Byzantine rite marriage

An Orthodox wedding is a marriage ceremony conducted according to the rites of an Eastern Orthodox Christian church.

The service is highly liturgical, featuring crowning of the bride and groom, circling the altar three times, and sharing a common cup of wine.

Orthodox weddings do not include the exchange of vows typical of Western ceremonies: Their Orthodox wedding lasted nearly two hours.
