OPT

Decide between alternatives

Opt means to make a choice, usually between alternatives: I opted for the cheaper option.

It often appears with prepositions indicating direction of choice—opt for, opt out of, opt into.

To opt out is to choose not to participate; to opt in is to actively choose participation, especially for programs requiring explicit consent.
