Norman invasion

William's English conquest

The Norman invasion refers to the 1066 conquest of England by William, Duke of Normandy, following his victory at the Battle of Hastings.

This event transformed English language, law, and culture, introducing French vocabulary and feudal structures.

The term sometimes applies loosely to any Norman military expansion, including into Sicily and Ireland.
