Nisei soldiers
Second-generation Japanese-American troops
Nisei soldiers were second-generation Japanese Americans who served in the U.S. military during World War II, most notably in the 442nd Regimental Combat Team.
Many enlisted while their families were held in internment camps, making their service a pointed assertion of loyalty.
The 442nd became one of the most decorated units in American military history.
His grandfather was a Nisei soldier who fought in Italy.
