settler colonialism

Permanent occupation conquest

Settler colonialism is a form of colonization where the colonizing power seeks to permanently occupy territory and replace the indigenous population rather than merely extract resources or labor.

Unlike extractive colonialism, the settlers come to stay, establishing their own society while displacing or eliminating native peoples: The United States, Australia, and Israel are often analyzed through the lens of settler colonialism.

The term appears frequently in academic and political discourse about indigenous rights and territorial dispossession.
