Naismith

James Naismith was a Canadian-American physical education instructor who invented basketball in 1891.

He created the game at a YMCA training school in Springfield, Massachusetts, using peach baskets as goals.

The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame bears his name, as does the Naismith Award for college basketball's best players.
