Magic Flute
Enchanted woodwind opera
The Magic Flute is Mozart's final opera, a fantastical singspiel combining fairy-tale elements with Enlightenment themes of reason, virtue, and initiation.
First performed in Vienna in 1791, it features the birdcatcher Papageno, the Queen of the Night's famous coloratura aria, and a magic flute that protects its bearer from harm.
The work remains among the most performed operas worldwide.
